Not quite as unputdownable as James. Engrossing and horrifying at the same time. Makes you outraged then reminds you your outrage is short lived and insufficient.

I…wow. I can’t even get my feelings together on this one. Everett is a masterful writer, I wish I had a better vocabulary to explain why, but he’s darkly hilarious, clever, and can also deliver sharp and poignant commentary on American culture, racism, and the Black American experience. The ending left me with more questions than answers and the last 15% felt like a fever dream/SNL skit, but…the experience of reading this made it 5 stars for me.
