Second and final part if the series. I have read the first part almost a year ago - and i didnt like it very much. I didnt hate it, but i thought that except for its setting, there was nothing extraordinary about it, just a bunch of overdone cliches in nice writing. So imagine my surprise when I picked up this book and became absolutly obessed with it.

What changed? Maybe my taste has gotten better. Maybe its gotten worse. Maybe it's just because I havent read good fantasy in quite some time and this was a refreshing welcome back. But it was all in all a very good read for me, a little too long maybe, but exciting, moving and romantic.

One thing I heavily criticised about the first book was the romance. I didn't like Zafira nor Nasir very much, and didnt feel the chemistry between them at all. That changed drastically this book. Their chemistry was amazing and although they have the wirst communication you will ever read, their actions make up for that. Its also really good that we can hear the story from both sides, not just Zafiras. Otherwise we would probably not even know that Nasir loves her. But now, most of the book is just those two pining over each other but not saying anything because of various reasons. And I loved it.

I also really liked to plot. It was less of a quest like the first one and had more politics, a lot of different sceneries as very interesting side stories for our main cast. I did think that it was a little slow paced and the plot did not need to take so long to get through, but at least, no important scenes where rushed and we really got to explore the characters more deeply and see sides to them, that we wouldn't have expected in the first book.

All in all, great book, awesome setting, with a really exciting and nuanced romance. Can recommend.

This is such a beautiful book. The prose are near lyrical.

A treat to read from start to finish- I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a YA book as much as this duology in a while.

DID NOT FINISH: 25%

I loved the first book in this series but the second one is just waaaay too dragged out. There is no reason for this book to be as long as it is. I'm 25% in and nothing has happened. The two main characters are just aggravating me with the constant back and forth. it's just been boring tension between the two, without even a real valid reason for it. I want to know what happens and I love the other characters but I just can't get through it.
