No one is surprised that I'm rating this high. I'm one of Darwin's biggest fan girls.
This makes me want to reread "The voyage of the Beagle" just to be alone with his thoughts. I promise that is almost not as creepy as you guys may think.
This is a colourful and approachable introduction to the journey that is the Voyage of the Beagle.

Loved this book! As a Biology major, I learned about Darwin in almost every single one of my classes in university and highschool. But I only really thought of his ideas. The man himself never felt real to me, just his ideas.
So reading this book and learning about the human side of Darwin and his personal struggles and adventures on board the HMS Beagle was a wonderful perspective!
You learn very briefly about his theories of evolution...near the end of the book. Which makes sense as the book is about his 5 year journey around the Americas and his theory of evolution really was fleshed out once he returned home.
It was a wonderful journey and I loved the authors decision to highlight the less famous stories about the indigenous tribes and the three indigenous people that the captain of the HMS Beagle had with him.
Highly recommend for someone who knows what Darwin is famous for but wants to know about his adventures.

I really enjoyed the graphic interpretation of Darwin’s voyage on The Beagle.
As noted by the authors in the afterward, there were a few deviations from what actually happened during his voyage, but all together I found it to be a fairly accurate depiction.
The novel is clearly well researched and the afterward clearly lays out the creative licence that the authors took with the story and gave additional historical background. They also cautioned readers not to take the story at face value and to research the voyage itself and gave some texts that they recommended.
Highly impressed. I look forward to whatever this duo comes out with next.

Loved the art work and the innocent, short version of Darwin's story. That's not necessarily a bad thing - this is, after all, a geaphic novel for kids as well as for adults. I could still learn about Darwin's discoveries and life. Would recommend to all ages :)
Great graphic novel for ages 13+ (nudity) about Darwin and the voyage on the HMS Beagle. Focused on the personal, lets you get in Darwin's head a bit. What's fascinating is that although the details had been modified to fit the narrative frame of the book, the parts I questioned - like, did he really feel that way about slavery?- were discussed in the afterward. I would've enjoyed an afterward with more details, but that's just me.
I already knew a little about Darwin's personal life from a podcast/NPR, especially the conflict with religious doctrine and his discoveries and the letter he received that pushed him to publish. Makes me want to read The reluctant Mr Darwin or something else a bit meatier.
J'ai hâte de lire leur livre sur Audubon!
