I picked this book up because I loved the themes and the blurb spoke to me. I thought this book would promote an existential relfection. But God I found this such a tough book to get through - the last 50 pages irritated me so much because I just wanted it to end.

Some of the writing spoke perfectly - Frits looked at the clock. "All is lost," he thought, "everything is ruined. It's ten minutes past three. But the evening can still make up for a great deal.

But most of the time I found all the characters incredibly unlikeable, unsympathetic and oddly mean.

Adesso no
