"Sooner or later...one has to take sides - if one is to remain human."

A gritty glimpse of Vietnam during a time of war and what happens when a young American political idealist befriends an aging British journalist whose attempt to remain a neutral observer is challenged. The struggle for the affection of a young Vietnamese woman further complicates the situation and likely propel events forward.

Absolute masterpiece, no notes Graham. One of the books I loved as a teen and have grown into even more as a 27-year old

A short book that I enjoyed though it's important to know that it is a deeply metaphorical book. The 3 main characters represent Vietnam, the U.S., and England which adds both meaning and complexity to this novel.
