The gasp I GASPED at the end.
So beautiful.

I wish I’d read a physical copy vs listening to the audio, though.

This book is absolutely beautiful. I loved the combining of kindred cultures in the hoodoo tradition and the Navajo beliefs. The prose was gorgeous and emotional, while still keeping the story clear and easy to slip into. The words felt like dancing on the page, the rhythm was music, which fit the characters. I didn't fully grasp the intensity of this ghost story walking into it, and the ending was, not so much a surprise, but emotionally impactful.

I have no words for how beautiful and moving this book is. Just—utter perfection.

This kind of storytelling is underrated. McBride is one to watch for. This is enlightening, beautiful and fulfilling. I feel like this is a book that one can re-read over and over with new meaning each time.

OH. MOTH. This novel about a ballerina whose family is in a horrific car accident tore me open. This was a quick read as it’s written in verse. I am so in awe of writers like Amber McBride, and my man, Jason Reynolds, who can DESTROY YOU with just a few words. This one will stay with me.

Surprisingly wonderful book. Definitely read like a YA book with the romance. The layers of black history and Navajo history were informative and the twist of the story was a pleasant surprise. Would love that as an adult historical fiction novel.

This was such a beautiful story. I sobbed like a baby at the end of it 🥺 Touches a lot on grief and dealing with the death of loved ones.
