Moth lost her family in a car accident.
An accident that split the car the way a candy bar may split open.
And split her open when she was the only one to walk away.
Living with her aunt should give her solace.
But her aunt can't seem to stand to look at her.
In school it is more of the same.
More time alone.
More time unseen.
More time to split open.
Until she meets Sani
who seems to see her when no one else does.
This novel in verse is lovely. Moth drew me into her story from the very first page. I felt for her and was relieved when she found Sani- and he found her. As they set off on a cross country adventure I cheered them on and hoped that they each would find, in themselves and one another, the things that would help them feel whole. Though I did figure out what the twist to this story was going to be, I enjoyed it from beginning to end. I highly recommend that you take the time to read this story!

The way her books would have given me so much language for grief and mental health related things in middle school. A beautiful communicator as YA author!
I don’t often read novels in verse and I’m so glad I picked this one up. I went in knowing nothing and recommend you do the same. Just know it’s beautiful and engaging. It’s full of Earth magic and voodoo and Native imagery along with nod to Greek mythology and Shakespeare. A truly lovely read.
This would have been a three star read until I got to the end. THAT STORY HAS BEEN DONE AND I DON'T LIKE IT AND IF I HAD KNOWN I WOULD NOT HAVE READ IT.
this book was amazing! it was entirely written through the use of poetry and I wasn't sure if I would enjoy that, since I am still on a journey to love poetry, however, I really, truly loved every aspect of this! The story was so full of heart, love, and did amazing at pulling me into the story. And the plot twist? So good. This was for my Young Adult Lit class, and so when we were discussing it in class today after I finished it this morning, I was flipping back through the book to see if I could spot any foreshadowing that I might have missed before that hinted to the twist. There totally was foreshadowing, which makes it all the more impressive to me because to be able to do so while conveying a plot, and sticking to the poeticness of the medium is so cool. Anywho, I loved this, and will def be looking for more books written in verse.
