All right, and there we have it! I read 100 books in 2020! I'm pretty happy to have reached this goal and I like that I made this my final one of the year, not only because I liked it, but also because it felt pretty emblematic of romance fantasy literature in 2020. It seemed like every time I discussed fantasy, YA/NA, or romance this year after the first book came out, this series would inevitably come up.
I mentioned this in my review for the first book, but I've been a fan of Armentrout's for a while, and I think her body of work is an interesting thing because she's incredibly good at disguising her writing style, to the point that I don't know if I would have known the first book was written by her if I had somehow gone into it blindly.
That said, I think this is a perfect marriage (pun intended) of Armentrout's usual style, that of the Lux and Dark Elements books, and the style used in From Blood and Ash, which really ended up hitting a sweet spot between trashy fun and genuinely engaging that she's had a hard time balancing herself into in the past.
Like, even though this may not be my favorite Armentrout novel, I would feel pretty comfortable saying it's her best. It really feels like the culmination of all her different styles and stories that I've read and it felt like, for the first time in a while, Armentrout had grown as a writer, which is a cool thing to observe.
I think the action was really fun and engaging, the romance was hot and engaging, the story was very well paced and engaging and...yeah, I get it, I'm being repetitive, but this was really engaging. I finished this at about 4:00am this morning and, when I woke up for work today, I found myself excited to continue listening when I dug into work and...well, shit, I forgot I already finished it! Oops, I have to wait until April for the next book!
Anyway, needless to say I'm very excited for the next one. I liked it a lot more than the first book and I'm very excited to see if book three can keep that momentum up. Bated breath for 4-20, baby!

Bu incelememde sadece olumsuz eleştirilerimden, eksikliklerden bahsettim. Yoksa verdiğim puandan da anlaşıldığı üzere kitabı sevdim.
İlk kitap heyecan dorukta, neler olacak bakalım denilen bir yerde bitmişti. İlk kitaba yorum yazmadan ikinciyi okumayacağım diye diretmeme rağmen kitaba sonunda saldırdım. A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire da ismiyle bile gelecek vadediyordu. Kitaptan keyif almasına keyif aldım, sırıta sırıta okuduğum yerler oldu filan falan ama çıtanın altında kaldı.
Birbirini tekrar eden çok fazla düşünce ve konuşma vardı. İlk seferinde gülümsediğim bir espriyi sonra suyu çıkana kadar 100 kere daha okumak zorunda kaldım. Sanırım yazar bile Poppy'nin kiminle ne konuştuğunu, neleri düşündüğünü ara ara unutmuş. Poppy'nin bunu bilmiyorum, bu bana söylenmemişti, bunu fark etmemiştim dediği bazı şeyler çoktan bahsedilmiş oluyordu. Çok mühim detaylar değil ama okurken bir süre sonra tutarsızlıklar gözüme batmaya başladı. Mesela en son bir yerde Poppy babasının annesine Cora diye hitap ettiğini unuttuğunu söylüyor. Ama kitabın başlarında babam ve annem birbirlerine böyle hitap ederdi diye bahsetmişti.
Bir yerde aha Alacakaranlık'a bağladık diye güldüm. Sonra Poppy özünde bir Luxen filan diye eğlendim. Diğer yandan başka yerde Cassandra ve SJM'e bağlayacak diye korktum. Yani JLA kıl payı o noktadan döndü. Şükürler olsun!
Gerektiğinden fazla uzatılmıştı. Ve bu süreçte hiç bir soruya cevap alamamış olmak sinir bozucu. Son sayfada bari ne olduğunu öğrenseydik de öyle bitseydi. Neyse ki 3. kitaba şunun şurasında sayılı gün kaldı.

I loved this book! I loved watching Cas and Poppys relationship grow and become stronger! I loved how they said they were "just pretending" but actually falling in love and were scared. I do wish however that Cas communicated how he truly felt sooner and was more clear about it with words when they weren't "pretending" I think that would have made Poppy feel more secure about her own feelings and less scared. I loved how determined Cas was to gain her trust again and show her just how much he loves her and respects her. Its perfect!

WHERE IS THE PLOT?! If you like reading a whole lot of nothing go ahead and pick up this series.

I loved meeting all the new characters and the world building in this one. Poppy and Casteel's banter and relationship is one of my favorites. Actually Poppy's banter with everyone is my favorite. I like her spunk and loved learning more about her character in this book.
