This book is a classic of early American literature and crucial for understanding the Pilgrims and their Plymouth colony. Bradford wrote some great and moving passages, and he recounts an exciting story. That said, it was never really finished or published, ans it shows. The story starts off strong, but once the colony is established I'd imagine most people will begin to lose interest as the book turns to financial wranglings, eventually petering out entirely towards the end of Bradford's life. All in all though, still a great book.

Of Plymouth Plantation by William Bradford
Difficult book to read with broken English but enjoyed the story of how the group formed and headed to the Danes then off to US.
Another really good section was after landing who they came into contact with. Very political and religious back stories.
Lots of letters from those involved with decisions.
Passenger list on the Mayflower is included along with family tree listings.
Footnotes are listed at the very end of the book. What appears to be treaties between the Pilgrims and Indians are also included.
Appendixes and index are also included.
Other works associated with this one are also available.

So much here to mull over. Since Bradford wrote this as yearly reviews during the time span of 1620-1647 , we read what really happened when it was happening, no whitewash. Yes, there are pages and pages of descriptions of dealing with the men in England who were funding the venture, zzzz, but the reports from the New World are riveting.
What struck me was how hard the Pilgrims and the Native Americans worked to keep peace and how important those relationships were to both sides.

The perfect book to read in this Thanksgiving season--a history of the Plymouth colony written by its first governor.
