This is definitely a collection for long-time readers of DC and/or the Birds Of Prey characters, but I still enjoyed the adventure, The fact that I want to learn more about the characters I hadn't previously known about is also a plus.

While I'm eternally frustrated at the collection editor for this series for skipping over swaths of issues I still enjoyed this latest installment of birds of prey.

in this volume, the status quo for our heroes has shifted. founding member o the group Black Canary has left the team and newer members Big Barda Manhunter Hawkgirl and a multitude if others have come into the scene

The girls face off against the secret six in Russia and we see the return of oracle obsessed the calculator

This volume was frontloaded with plenty of action. We get to see a more expansive team dynamic in early issues as Huntress with new members big Barda, Hawkgirl [] [] spy smasher face off against the sinister six in Azerbaijan. this was mostly great fun. I especially fell in love with brawler big Barda spirit throughput. the secret six battle was pretty comedic and the rapport between the two teams was fun to read

the overarching conflict in this series is the power struggle between spy smasher and oracle and the former is blackmailing barbara into controlling her team. with the resolution to this conflict feel convenient i count help but squee when Babs throughout her final confrontation with spy smasher. her gathering of all the big guns was excellent.

I did miss the presence of Dinah as a part of the birds of prey. it's no secret that her friendship with bbs was the heart of the team so that absence was obvious but her departure gave room for huntress to take more of a leading role on the ground. her departure also sees the expansion of the team and as I remarked I did manage to be charmed by some of the members and I think with time others like manhunter could win me over but I did prefer the more intimate and grounded four-person team.
