Book one of a gothic fantasy duology and I’m a tiny bit mixed on it. Overall, I enjoyed the book, although it took me quite a long time to really get into it. The first third was really slow for me and I wasn’t able to get into my reading flow, but after powering through a bit, the last half really moved and was engaging. And despite being quite neutral through the majority, by the end, I was ready to pick up the second book immediately. The overall plot and goal of the characters was enjoyable. The magic system was interesting, but it was a bit difficult for me to keep track of and remember what each card did and what the negative effects were. I think a guide would have been nice for me to flip back to remember the details. The characters were fine- a little bit basic, difficult to see the unique features of each through the story. I didn’t find the romance to be anything special, but it was a slow burn, enemies to lovers style. Overall, the suspense in the last half of the book was what kept me engaged and what will make me interested in book two.

This story was intriguing from the get go, but as it progressed i worried i had guessed all of the revelations. However, I’m glad I stuck with it because the drama at the end is very much worth it. On to the second book!

I had been dying to read this book and finally had a chance to read it for our book club. I was so worried that this book wouldn't live up to the hype but it did. I fell in love with Elspeth, Ravyn, and the others and got wrapped up in the story. Some parts of the story were predictable but it was still well-written. There were parts I had guess would happen but they happened in an unexpected way. It's part fantasy, part heist, part romance, and part mystery. If you are a fan of Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, you'll love this. I'm going to have to get a copy of Two Twisted Crowns to see how it all ends!

I really enjoyed the concept of this book with the magic system being around tarot cards and how anyone can claim the power of the card.

However, when reading the book I had conflicting options. There were times where I loved reading the book and the characters. Then there were times where I was not interested in the plot.

I will read the second and last book in the series as i enjoyed this book overall and I want to know what happens at the end.

Took me a while to get into it, didn't like the story at first, but once I truly gave it a shot I was totally wrapped up in it. Vibes felt super unique, and I loved the characters. Definitely spooky!!!

Content warning for an open door scene toward the end of the book that I skipped over.
