Great little book to keep around with you and some handy advice. Reading this through a gendered lens was pretty interesting though, it had me thinking about the necessary solitude Rilke advises and how differently that advice applies to women. Those thoughts were more interesting to me than the writing itself, but it is how it is.

Another book to have on the shelf to consult during a creative lull or a seemingly desolate season. The author writes on the growth of a human when going through struggles and how necessary they are, though painful. Sorrow and sadness are beautiful things and he articulates the wonder of them. His perspective on life almost makes you anticiapate or relish those moments given the knowledge of the profound and transformative workings in your soul.

This. Guy. Gets it.

My favorite quote from this masterpiece: "And they will also gradually come to realize that what we call fate does not come into us from the outside, but emerges from us" (85-86)
