Reading this as a poet in my early twenties has completely shifted my perspective on writing and how I view life through it. Oh my god.
I read and reread parts of it THRICE just to absorb it all. The book lives up to all of its hype, and then some more. Rilke’s wisdom, to me, seemed akin only to Van Gogh’s influence on the lessons I have learned of loneliness and solitariness. His gentle wisdom and unfiltered confessions throughout the book felt in little ways like my inner voice, and I am so so so glad I picked this up.
It's as if this book has converted my life and feelings into a language that only I understand.
The supposed beauty and profoundness of this piece were unfortunately lost on me. I can appreciate it for being something that just was not my cup of tea, but can be beloved to others.
