Either he is a feminist or I missed the point of his letters. The contemplations on solitude and sitting in stillness are in my opinion so similar to the key principles of modern psychiatry and meditation self-help practices. Some excellent life philosophy as well, and meditations on faith and religion.
"To love is also good, for love is hard. Love between one person and another: that is perhaps the hardest thing it is laid on us to do, the utmost, the ultimate trial and test, the work for which all other work is just preparation. For this reason young people, who are beginners in everything, do not yet know how to love: they must learn. With their whole being, with all their strength, concerted on their solitary, fearful, upward beating hearts, they have to learn to love."
“you must realize that something is happening to you, that life has not forgotten you, that it holds you in its hand and will not let you fall”
!!!!! i didn’t expect 10 little letters to leave such a profound impact on me, but here we are. letters to a young poet is a masterpiece in every sense, a quiet collection that feels so intimate yet universally transformative. rilke’s words are tender, wise, and filled with such startling clarity that they cut right through to the core of what it means to be human, to create, to suffer, and to find one’s way in the world.
and i’m not exaggerating when i say this is one of the most important things i’ve ever read. it’s not just a book. it’s a compass for navigating life’s deeper questions. i found myself learning something new with every page, every letter, as rilke’s reflections on solitude, love, and art resonated in ways i never anticipated.
honestly, this should be essential reading for anyone who is grappling with their own creative journey or just figuring out how to live more authentically. the lessons he imparts—about patience, introspection, and embracing uncertainty are nothing short of life-altering. truly, i’m still processing it all.

Some of Rilke's advices I truly felt were... life-changing (to a writer, or to anyone for that matter), but the one that stuck with me most is his plea to writers to strip themselves of irony. Completely. And never dare to write anything if you feel like anything you're trying to say is not worth writing, not worth feeling. Personally, I found the letters quite surface-level profound, but sometimes those are /just/ the right medicine to straighten one's spine back up again.
i love these letters, they have such a wealth of wisdom and comfort. i recommend this book to everyone - there’ll be a letter out of the ten that will comfort you in any problem you’re facing.

I believe I will come back to this book again and again but it will never be the same book twice.
