Surprisingly beautiful, pastoral and poignant poetic prose. Delicate and moving.

Prosadigte om mig og mit æsel... Det er da fint, men jeg har nu læst nobelpristagere, der gjorde større indtryk.

I love this book to bits. It is heavily lyrical. It evoques childhood and a place that doesn't exist anymore, a quite village in the countryside. If you read it, images, scents, feelings of that lost childhood and that lost countryside place will come to your mind.
In order to enjoy it, I guess you have to be in the mood for poetry. But it is precious and I totally recommend it. A wonderful work of art. Not sure about the ideal age for reading. I read it in high school and loved it, and later as an adult I have re-read a couple of times. Although I would say that when I was a child it made me feel like daydreaming and as an adult it makes me feel more melancholic and longing for those places that can't be reached.
