I started this as a physical book, but as a mama of a newborn who came a couple weeks early, switched to audiobook.
What a delight of a book!
The narrator was enjoyable to listen to, but it’s the descriptive writing that really sells this story about self-discovery, complicated relationships, choosing who you will be and what family means. It’s also a love story to scent and the outdoors and home and the world that you inhabit and how that influences all of the other elements of the story.
The writing heightens emotions and allows you to travel alongside Emmeline in every step of her story - definitely recommend!

Could not force myself to care about this book for part I. Persevered through until part II, and then absolutely could not put it down. Loved it.
This was an olfactory ode. It’s the magical realism for me. Unique. Absorbing. Infatuated with this author’s voice. Definitely want to read another book by her!

So, this really seemed like a 5 star read. It was a delightfully unique tale that I thoroughly enjoyed.
And then, there was a completely unnecessary animal death that was dragged out.
But I pushed through and even began to think I might give a book with horrific animal death 5 stars.
And then it ended abruptly.
So here we are.
It has a lot of good, but I need a bit more.
I definitely will be thinking about this book despite its faults.
Enjoyed the lyrical writing style. Interesting story and characters.
