Took me a bit to get into but once I did was wanting to know more of the story. I was feeling it needed more of a continued narrative but it jumped too much.
**I believe it was coincidence that this library book smelled like patchouli and was very distracting.

Meh. I just could not get into this one. And life is too short to read books you don’t love.

2.5 ⭐️ for me. This book was a bit of a wild ride. I found Part One was slow and quite tedious. If this had not been a book club pick it would have been 1 star and a DNF at 20%.
Part Two picked up and was quite engaging but I’d also popped the audio book o to 1.75x speed. I enjoyed learning more about the characters although the one note school environment started to wear thin as did the main characters constant failure to open up to anyone.
Part Three was interesting and I didn’t mind it but as others have indicated ended so abruptly it felt lazy. By Part Three I was in 2x speed and just powering through for the ending. I wanted less time on the island at the beginning and more time following the main characters as they explored their new lives.
I want to like the main character but it really bothered me how she kept leaving people behind without much thought.

3.5 stars. Seemed formulaic at times but was a good twist on a familiar concept and ended beautifully.

I don’t know. I keep coming back to this one. Something about the idea of preserving scents and how far we’ll go when we’re living in the past. A dad who wanted to keep his daughter safe and a mom who doesn’t know how to love her daughter. A crazy setting and concept that came to feel real by the end. And a return to what was a beautiful childhood whose facade came down after rose colored glasses came off. The world is cruel and the secrets we keep can drive us so far apart that we don’t see the sacrifices until it’s too late. I remember this one like I just finished it and I read it two years ago now?
