I really enjoyed this book. I absolutely loved the characters - I liked the descriptions of Marin's anxiety and loved how Evie never judged her for it but was really supportive of whatever Marin was feeling or going through. Evie, in general, is a character I will definitely remember, she's very complex and interesting, and I just really liked her.
As a big fan of The Haunting of Bly Manor and Hill House, I noticed quite a few similarities between this book and both TV shows (also talking about the Hill House TV show here, not the book), but this story ends up taking a very different direction, so it's not just some kind of a retelling or something.
I loved the atmosphere in this book as well as how myterious it was - it's not scary in my opinion, but I would still highly recommend it, especially if you want an autumnal read with the perfect dark and mysterious vibes that is at the same time cozy and heartwarming because of its found family aspects.
I am not a fan of fantasy books - too much fantasy takes me out of the story - but this book worked perfectly well for me for the most part. I do have to say that some scenes slightly exceeded my fantasy limits (especially one moment at the end), but this actually didn't bother me that much because I enjoyed everything else so much. So if you are anything like me and don't like fantasy, I would still recommend this book :)
I realized after finishing it that I actually keep thinking about different aspects of the story and the symbolic meaning of certain things (for example the big moment at the end), and that's what makes a great story, really, isn't it?

I really enjoyed this book. The world was imaginative and complex. The atmosphere is eerie and quite dark at times. The plot was well written. The twists were pretty good and well timed but I did guess part of the ending pretty early on in the book. I really liked the characters. I really connected with Marin. The kids bought some comic relief at times. I really want to read more from this author.

honestly I want to restart this all over again tbh, I don't think i'll ever get over how much I enjoy this story.

first read:
Loved everything about this:
- Gothic setting
- Talk about grief and how far one is willing to go for love
- Overcoming challenges
- The characters: every single one of them
- the plot
etc.

Its a really good book to read in the summer.. not just because it mainly set in the summer time but because it's an easy and immersive read.
