CW for animal death in this book, like there’s a LOT, if that’s something that you can’t handle, you might want to skip this one.

I really didn’t expect the layers of absolutely horrific goings-on, in this book, and it was a little uncomfy at times to get through, but wow, this was an excellent story.

3.5/5. This was surprisingly good. I loved the creepy gothic house environment and the claustrophobic sensation that you got while reading the book. I'm always up to a nivel of this style, even though I haven't read many of them, and this one didn't disappoint. It was hooking since the beginning and I loved the twists, which I didn't see coming. The only thing I didn't like was the instalove, but that doesn't change the fact that I enjoyed the book a lot.

ARC by NetGalley and the publisher.
This novel reminded me of The Turn of the Screw with the plot while also still being its own which I enjoyed as it wasn’t just a carbon copy. I felt the book had a good balance of horror, with it still being in the YA genre making it not too terribly terrifying for a younger reader audience. I always find creepy houses with children as occupants to be even more unnerving and this book was no different. The setting of the Lovelace Estate was both intriguing and spooky with it’s haunted grounds and long family history. The romance in this book was cute and served as a nice break from all the twisty happenings. There was a nice build to the plot and all the questions that arose in this novel were answered which I found refreshing as many books I have read lately leave plot holes or cliff hangers. I did however feel as if the actual ending felt rushed, while it was still shocking and unexpected it wasn’t as creepy as I was anticipating it to be.

All the Dead Lie Down comes out May 16, 2023.

Thank you again NetGalley and HarperCollins Children’s Books for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This was wonderfully creepy and atmospheric. Filled with sapphic love and pining, and an interesting exploration of grief.

I loved the gothic setting and the slow burn of creepiness and secrets. The relationships between the characters felt so real and they were nicely fleshed out (no pun intended). I did think the ending felt a little rushed. I feel like it could have benefitted from a little more time spent on the reveals and motivations of some of the characters. I would have liked it to explore the more horror aspects of the story but I can understand why it was kept a little lighter as it is a Young Adult novel. Overall the atmosphere and representation were wonderfully done and I would recommend it to fans of slow burn gothic horror.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ALC of this work. All opinions in this review are my own.
