I used to read nothing but horror then Stephen King ruined that for me. I won't get into the reasons for that here. I just wanted to say that it has been a long time since I have taken a chance on a horror story and I have to say I am glad I did.
I really enjoyed the story. I got wrapped up in the characters and really started to care about what happened to them.
There is nothing I dislike more than a bratty kid, I am glad the story turned that around right quick or I may not have made it through the whole thing.
Seriously though, it is a good story with some twists and turns you might not have guessed were coming and a few you might guess. Nothing overly scary or dread worthy but still creepily good.

the reveals and twists of books like this are never as good as the mystery and build up, it always just goes off the rails and gets not scary or interesting

This was surprisingly better than I had expected.
The way the story was told (the audiobook made it better) and the descriptions of everything was excellent.
The little twins were amazing 🤣 but oh so sweet especially when trying to protect their older sister.
Maybe the ending could be predictable, but once we find out the big thing, I literally just went back to the book and was “oh so that means that this happened here and this is what that meant”, it was delightful.
