Amazing art, fantasical and unique world, but an okay story.
Art: The art is beautiful. It's unique, cute, detailed, two things I love in a style. Almost every panel looks amazing. The backgrounds are beautiful too. It checks all the boxes for good sequential art.
Character: I really like the side characters, although we don't to see much of them. Theo has a good intro, a bookworm who wants to go on an adventure. Kinda like a character of the same name, Theo Fulmis from Magus of the Library (also good book). But here we get to see his adventure earlier. I like how he's an inventor and uses his skills in the story, instead of that character aspect getting forgotten about. Mia is fine, but quite boring, she's a standard young girl character for now. She does have hints of some arc or secret. Leading to the next part:
Story: When I first read it, I felt something was off. This was confirmed once I finished the third volume. It just feels like it's been done before, but with some extra bells and whistles. The story only seems to be held up by it's little moments, like the fun moment of Theo using his contraptions to fight, or Hotch's mini arc. The story itself is just bland, it feels like it doesn't know where to go. I can tell there's passion put into the work at least. Also it's hard to tell where the story is going. I've seen critiques that Mia's backstory should be explained. But for now it's fine, but they don't really foreshadow or even set up anything for it. But I did like the turn at the halfway to a more focused story, and more interesting. I just didn't find the meeting part of the story very good.
All in all def read this book, while the story itself is a little above average, the art and world is just amazing.

While the artwork in here is very beautifully drawn, I think the story is a bit too lacking to really make this volume a standout. The characters are quirky and sweet but lack personality, and I feel very meh towards all of them. More worldbuilding would have helped create a more solid environment as well, which in turn would have given the story a bit more grounding. I'll still keep reading for now, but I'm hoping to see something more unique in the future story.

The stakes are extremely low all things considered and the plot is not anything new, but it’s still very cute and the art has a magical dreamy loose style that really highlights the fairytale theme it’s going for. I don’t really have any interest in continuing the series, but still worth checking out if you want to read a middle grade fantasy steampunk fairytale manga
