I think I read this about 5 times as a little girl.
An endearing reread from my childhood in these COVID-19 times.
I really do adore children's books. Was a great start for the series. Although I wasn't expecting to tear up but then that certain part happened....Anyways I give it a 3.5 rating, because it was too short. It's still an awesome story though. Will definitely read the rest of the books.
Squeezing in one last book in 2019! Reading to keep up with American Girls podcast because it is the shit. I never read Kirsten as a kid because I was only into cool not-farm kids (Molly and Samantha seemed much cooler) but this would have been a good lead-in if you were the kind of person to be into Little Women or Anne of Green Gables.
This set of Kirsten’s six stories was very enjoyable, though I didn’t like it quite as much as I liked Felicity’s collection. My favorite was Happy Birthday, Kirsten; I really enjoyed the bits about sewing a quilt and the joy the girls got in sewing it together as a group.
Plowing through the original American Girl books, #1: Meet Kirsten
I was unfamililar with Kirsten before starting this reading project and I gotta say, I had no idea that American Girl stories got this.... dark? Like, damn, there's straight up death and disease here and not talked about in a vague or gentle way. And I'm not saying that's a bad thing! Not at all! I just wasn't expecting it.

Poor Kirsten's first story is one of the more dramatic of the bunch so far.
Got this book in 1986 along with the Kirsten doll. Even though the American Girls line has changed dramatically over the years, this book is still one of my favorites in the series.
Kirsten and her family are traveling from Sweden to America. When they arrive in America and start their journey to Minnesota Kirsten wonders if she will ever feel like an American?
Most of this book is just the journey to Minnesota. I like the last chapter when they finally arrive. I've read this series before and I think the books after the first one more.
