This was such a sad book, because it's based on a real cult called the Family that existed in Australia. We have get a back and forth of what happened in the past and the current day. I don't want to say too much and ruin the mystery, but if you find cults fascinating like I do then this is a good reaad.

Cults. Cults. Cults. What is it with cults that really captivates and audience and draws us in!? I truly do love a story that delves into a Cult and this was no exception!!

I throughly enjoyed the captivating novel by J P Pomare and would highly recommend it. The twist and turns that take place in the story are so clever and when you finally clock on to what‘s happening you’re only a sentence away from being told anyway!! The novel follows to narratives, one of Amy a young girl of 15 who is in ‘The Clearing’ and part of the Blackmarsh cult and one of Freya, a single mother who from the outset you realise is extremely worried about any news stories involving missing children and is deeply concerned about the safety of her own child, Billy.

This book does a wonderful job of highlighting the psychotic nature and mind altering brain washing techniques used by cults and how the reach of the cult can last throughout adulthood and the rest of your life even when you have left it.

Thank you to Hodder & Stoughton and Netgalley for the ARC!

Very, very cool literary technique
that's almost a spoiler by even mentioning it. I enjoyed this one.

The plot twist was a bit rushed but didn’t feel forced…I would have liked a little more build into the
reveal that Freya is Amy
but it made sense and was done well otherwise. The epilogue, while a cliff hanger, tied up the complexity of the characters nicely and helped to understand Freya’s struggles.

I love, love, love books that include cults and this was no exception. It's hard to review without giving anything away, but suffice it to say that the storylines of Freya and Amy dovetailed really well. This is an excellent psychological thriller and for various reasons, you are never quite sure how the POV characters are interpreting  the situation at hand.

Super fast read, some great plot twists
(I knew the first one about Amy and I guessed the one about Corazzo but those were still good. The one about the brother was great, and I wish we got more about the other son! The journal was chefs kiss. Didn't see that coming!)

I haven't read a thriller in ages so it was fun to feel really THRILLED by this one. I was on the edge of my seat for a lot of it. Freya is a fucked up, interesting character. I wish there were more Amy scenes, and a bit more about the actual cult.

A good read!

I don’t like books where people are victims of framing or gaslighting. I understand why it was important to the storyline but it was probably a bit too much for me.
However I truly enjoyed this and was literally on the edge of my seat for the day it took me to read. This will definitely be a big seller!
