This book kept me on my toes for it’s entirety. It is a mystery unlike any I’ve ever encountered, and there was a very unexpected twist towards the end of the story that shook my entire understanding of how the events of the story had played out, in a good way! This twist then made me look at everything leading to that moment in a new light, and then everything started clicking into place.

The Ending wow I did not expect I loved it really but the rest of the book? Did not interest me like 80% of the book I thought was kinda boring to me and I thought I would DNF it but the chapters are really short so it was easier to get through which was really the only thing that kept me going except the huge plot twist at the ending.

AMAZING plot twist, I didn't expect it. The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is because the ending was left kind of up in the air. Its not a completely frustrating thing but I do wish it was tied up. Overall I would highly suggest people read this book.

after some thinking and talking about it with a friend i lowered the rating a bit, i feel like the ending was hinted at and it was still a good plot twist in the end but i think i let myself be blinded to things because i spent so much time being upset about the cheating

This book was interesting to say the least. I had already been spoiled for the twist but I was still able to somewhat enjoy the story.
One of my issues was that since I knew the twist it was hard to be sympathetic to Theo. Alicia was failed by everyone in her life. Gabriel, her father, her mother, Jean-Felix. It was an interesting read knowing tha you are reading for the person responsible.  Seeing some of the slips Theo makes was fun to sort out.

Pretty much the only good thing I have to say about this book is that the plot was compelling enough to keep me reading until the end. The representation of therapists and mental healthcare was piss poor, the narrator was the only character who wasn’t totally one-dimensional, the journal portions were so un-diary-like that it was distracting (no one journals with full sentences of dialogue) and the twist at the end was incredibly lazy, creating a not insignificant number of plot holes. At first I thought I just really disliked the narrator, but after reading the author commentary at the end, I think it’s just him. What a shame, because the premise and most of the plot were really quite good.

choosing a lover is a lot like choosing a therapist. we need to ask ourselves, is this someone who will be honest with me, listen to criticism, admit making mistakes, and not promise the impossible?
