Wow

This book was so good that I hated when it ended. I felt a connection with all of the characters.

This gave me vibes to about time, since the time travel was there but there was never an explanation given. I liked Oona going through her life and figuring out things.

I definitely spent half of the book trying to figure out (and wishing for an explanation about) the time travel rules the author was basing the story in. Eventually I accepted the premise of co-occurring time while most of us experience time linearly and let go of the other more nuanced questions/unresolved explanations and by the end of the book I was wishing for a full series of Oona’s journey, year by year.

This book has an interesting premise and I think it’s a bummer that it got caught in the crossfire of a reading slump because I would’ve enjoyed it a lot more if I had consumed it over a much shorter period. I got stalled about 30% in and let it sit for a long while. Once I picked it back up and got a few chapters further, I got a lot more motivation to learn how Oona’s story ends. Overall I liked the MC and her emotional growth was very cool to see, as her internal age and external age warred against each other sometimes. The takeaway of enjoying life is a nice reminder, even if it felt a little on the nose.

This was such a unique book, with interesting characters and twists that surprised me. But it also made me really sad, sort of depressed, heartbroken for Oona, and a little exhausted. So, good for the author for pulling me in to feel those things. It almost feels like a lifetime of highs and lows for Oona, all in a handful of years, and I had to stop listening several times, just to get a break. There’s a good discussion to be had about fate and individual will with this book, though I’m not sure I liked what I personally perceive to be the answer on that.

Best book I've read in a long time- a real page turner. I hope there are more leaps from Oona in all our futures!

I’ve heard great things about this one and it did not disappoint. It’s a time-traveling story where the main character is transported to a different year of her life each Near Year’s Day, which is also her birthday. Fate is going to happen whether the outcome is known or not.
