enjoyed the character arcs of both Garp and his mom

We live in sexually intolerant times that's why this 40 year old novel isn't out of date, but it should be - John Irvine

Throughout this book, I found myself repeating over and over the word "bizarre"
If I had to describe this book in one word, that would be it.Everything about this book, was so bizarre in the best way possible.

The characters are truly one of a kind. From my first introduction to Jenny Fields in the movie theater, I was hooked.

I find it difficult to think of a book with a more interesting cast of characters.

Further to this the story was stellar.

This is the book that introduced me to John Irving, a breathtakingly talented writer. He's funny, insightful, touching, and entertaining, all at once. Read the book, read the author.

This is brilliance.

John Irving is a brilliant storyteller, there is no doubt about it. And I liked The Cider House Rules so much. Garp“s story was strange and at times far-fettched, full of really weird characters (or maybe it is only the American way of life, maybe changes in the society in the last 40 years on both continents, who knows).
