One of my very favorite books. In order to appreciate Irving, you can't take everything in his novels too seriously. Obviously my husband would be missing a testicle or two if he went after our babysitters, but Garp gets away with it. I thought the Ellen Jamsiens were particularly creative.
Secondo me, Irving scrive benissimo.

Keď som si uvedomila, že kniha má 600 strán, povedala som si "toto asi nikdy nedočítam". V poslednej dobe nemám ani veľa času a ani energie, takže som sa obávala, že Irvingovo dielo skončí v polici, smutné a nedočítané.
Ale nestalo sa tak. Príbeh ma natoľko uchvátil, že som si každý deň ukradla aspoň trochu času, aby som knihu mohla čítať (na hodinách fyziky, alebo počas cesty vlakom). A neľutovala som. Irvingovo rozprávačské umenie ma chytilo, niektoré absurdné situácie ma rozosmiali, iné rozplakali. Napokon som knihu odkladala len s ťažkosťami, tak veľmi mi postavy prirástli k srdcu.
Čo by som na knihe vyzdvihla je tá krásna rôznorodosť postáv. Feministka Jenny, transsexuálna Roberta či fuflajúca Alice ma vedeli občas naozaj dobre pobaviť.
Jedného dňa sa musím ku knihe dopracovať ešte raz, aby som si pripomenula veľkoleposť života, jeho komické i tragické momenty.
