SFF Clean-up 2023: Zero to Hero
This was fine but I didn't love it. I don't think I could appreciate the art properly. The story begins with a wrap-up of a lot of previous issues that I didn't know about so that was sort of confusing. The plot went quickly and I couldn't sink into the book.
I do really like the idea of The Green and that Swamp Thing isn't who he thinks he is! It's a very gothic feeling book and I don't think I expected it to veer as much as it did into horror although I probably should have expected that. Alan Moore always sees deeply into the things that truly scare us, like not truly knowing the people we love or finding that those people will betray us.

Reading this three years later for the second time, I found I could appreciate the art and writing more. There are still aspects of this that are products of the era it came out in (and which I do not enjoy), but I'm happy that I've rediscovered an interest in this series.

«Are you happy?
Yes.
Where will you go to?
Where I always go. Back home. Back to the swamp.»
