Couldn't finish it. I love the epistolary style, but it got somewhat exhausted. Even with drawing a character map, I had a hard time keeping up with all the connections and their various monikers. I like the idea, and the "cat and mouse" interplay, but it was just too much, too overcomplicated, too long.
So scandalous! So entertaining!
I find classic writings to be more difficult to read, but the epistolary (in letter correspondence) form made it incredibly dramatic and entertaining. The first quarter is a bit of plot set up, and yes, the language is lengthy and florid. But it's also wonderful.
And the plot... jeez, I felt like a dirty 50's housewife reading a smut novel. Amazing.
This version of the Penguin Classics also had helpful footnotes and endnotes, and I do recommend it.

Almost everyone in this was awful lol.
But I did get more into it than I expected. I'm a sucker for books told in letters, etc. I'm not as familiar with French history and literature so it was interesting to compare with Austen, Gaskell, etc. (though different time periods obvi).
I'm also glad to finally get it off my tbr haha. It feels the same way I do after a run, finishing a book I didn't think I had the stamina to read.

Cruel intentions met high society France. Engaging and scandalous plot filled with twists and turn. I enjoyed this short play.
