4.5. I really loved this book! I have to say with the three worlds alex has given us to read, I've become addicted to her writing and stories. this is so different from tdm and I love it a lot. I'll have a video review up soon.

2024 reread: so i have the hardcovers of this duology and theyre absolutely stunning so no matter what i feel about them i wont unhaul (unless theres like. really abhorrent shit in them lol). but! i havent read the second book so i wanted to finally do that! now, obviously i loved this when i first read it, but now im much more well read and not a teenager, this book is just…fine. it’s not amazing or terrible, but it’s awfully slow paced and the romance is ridiculous. far too intense for what is truly insta-love. i can poke many holes into the lore of this world, too, and maybe thatll be dealt with in the second book but idk. also etta is incredibly frustrating in a way that i can’t attribute to her just being a typical teenager, so that bugged me. maybe i’ll enjoy the second one more *shrugs*

actually one of my favorite books ever. yes, yes, time travel blah blah blah, but the romance. when nicholas asked etta about dancing, my heart seized in my chest. and every time he called her “pirate” i was blushing, giggling, kicking my feet. i love my protective, grumpy boyfriend and his fearless, sunshine girlfriend 🫶🏼
