This novel is was pretty anticlimatic, not very scary, and more of a philosophical debate between the Catholic Church handling of demonic possession and medical explanations for the same phenomenon. I kept waiting for something to happen and nothing did.

Don't be fooled by the rating, I wouldn't call this a favorite, but I thought it was a great read. Really DISTURBING scenes and probably not for everyone but the writing is really good. I saw the movie once in HS, and only remember the iconic bits and pieces of it, so the ending was a bit of a shock. The characters are all thought out, and due to the nature of the story, their flaws and issues can be fleshed out and even supporting characters have a history. If you like horror, this book is light and quick, but I don't mean that the content is light but the reading is easy/fast-paced.
