⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
💎 YA thriller/mystery-ish 💎
💎 baddie protagonist 💎
💎 rediscovered family 💎
💎 who's the father? 💎
💎 secrets and lies galore 💎
💎 debutante season 💎
This book wasn't quite as good as some of Jennifer Lynn Barnes' other books, but it's really hard to beat The Naturals and Inheritance Games to be fair. I enjoyed this book. It had a lot of similar elements to her other series, which I enjoyed, and the book hops back and forth from the present to 9 months ago and works its way forward. I also liked that element.
Sawyer is a cool main character. She's pretty standoff-ish, especially at first, which made it hard to connect with her a little, but she grew on me, and she has some great one-liners. She and her cousin and cousin's best friend make quite the team as they scheme against (and eventually with) one of the other debs, Campbell.
Society has a lot of secrets in it, and I love a good, juicy rich person scandal. I'd recommend this book. At first I wasn't sure if I was going to read the second one or not, but as I got further in, I think I definitely will. In true Jen Lynn Barnes fashion, the book's ending doesn't resolve everything, so I have to read the second to figure out what's going on. 💙

Love the flash forwards- it's a great format for a story.
I found this book really boring and confusing. Lots of characters that didn't end up being important so I kept getting confused on who was who. And the drama isn't really my thing.
