I love this Author's books and although they all use the same premise of following a city from its founding to the present day through it's inhabitants, they are all very different. good as paris or This was not as good as Paris or London and i think that was probably because the other cities are longer established. However i think the way Rutherfurd finished this book had real impact

This book made me appreciate New York so much more. I can't wait to go back and visit it with more of a historical perspective.
This book was amazing, it really made you think. You could really connect with the characters. I also really liked how much you learned. It went through everyone, it showed you the good side of New York and the and side.
Fairly interesting storylines; I enjoyed how the history of New York passed through the generations of inhabitants, but I did not find the author's writing style to be very captivating.
Hands down my very favorite novel there is! The entire history of NYC from the 1600’s as a Dutch fishing village until 2009. The story follows one family through many centuries and different neighborhoods and is just stunning!
The usual book from ER. Lots of cool historical info, somewhat interesting characters. Learned a lot and I really miss NYC now but not the greatest work of fiction ever.
While it might not be great literature, I can always get caught up in a sweeping historical novel that tells the stories of generations. The book is long, but easy to read. I'd put it in the same category as Jennifer Donnelly's Rose series.

I was in two minds whether this should be a 3 or 4 star. It was very enjoyable, following the history of New York through the eyes of several generations of mainly one family, with several other families popping up again through different generations. However for describing it as the most exciting city, i didn't get the feeling of excitement. While some historic events got a lot of detail, i felt others got either too small a mention, or never mentioned at all. So it was an enjoyable 1000 page romp, that I surprised myself in managing to get through in just over a week, just didn't quite fulfil for me the excitement promise of the cover blurb. But it was enjoyable enough that I'll definitely be adding more of Rutherfurd's books to my want to read shelf.
