Short and Sweet
This was such an adorable and sweet novella. I really wish there was more!! The relationship between Dez and Jas is so pure and sweet I wish I could bottle it up.

Great start
To be honest I wasn't sure if I would like this. Gargoyles? But because I'm such a huge fan of JLA I thought I would give it a try. Now I'm wondering why did I doubt. It was good. I really enjoyed it. Now can't wait to read the rest of the series

You know when something is just amazingly absolutely awesome. When it's beautifully crafted. When it... when it's so, so perfect... the right words to describe it just aren't good enough or don't do it enough justice?
Well JLA's BOOKS are like that. No amount of praise and extra heaping of awesome-sauce can truly describe how great her books are. I mean there probably - most likely - be a way but this woman is just an AMAZING STORYTELLER! You really do connect with her characters.
And if Bitter Sweet Love got me hot, excited and hooked... can you imagine what I'll be like with White Hot Kiss?!?
Jennifer L. Armentrout, if you are reading this review right now, girl get yourself a cookie - or two. :D
Happy reading! :)

I picked this one up when it was a kindle freebie with every intention of reading it but then it ended up lost on my kindle. Jas comes from a long line of Wardens a race of Gargoyle that shades from human to the winged creature we all know. Jas had a crush on Dez for years but when her father announced that they should be mated suddenly Dez takes off leaving Jasmine assuming it’s because of her. After three long years he returns without explaining why he left or where he was and he wants to be her mate. Jas has seven days to decide if she will mate with Dez but it won’t be easy she has a to-do list that will test them both.
While the pair embark on her to-do list Dez has to be on his guard if he’s going to keep Jas alive and safe from the demons that roam the city. Their first adventure will take them into the heart of New York but first he has to teach her to drive which is something the other guys haven’t been up to doing. Over the next seven days Dez will have to show Jas he loves her and keep her safe from demons that will want to harm her.
The Dark Elements series takes us into an exciting new world filled with Gargoyles and demons a true good vs evil concept. I’ve not read many books with Gargoyles but these have to be the most interesting the way that they shade from human to winged creature is awesome. I loved the characters they are easy to connect with and captured my heart. I’m a huge fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout so I had high hopes for the novella of her exciting new series. Bitter Sweet Love doesn’t disappoint I can’t wait to read the series. The story is action packed and loaded with sweet moments between Jas and Dez. It was hard to put down and finished it in just a few short hours. I just wish it wasn't so short but we have a brief introduction to the future books characters who I can't wait to learn more about.

Reading this book was like being attacked by some witty and hilariously snarky warm fuzzies! Absolute awesomeness!
Also, make him work for it girl! Disappearing for three years without even saying goodbye, and then just showing up out of nowhere and wanting to pick right up where you'd left off? Yeah, that's not gonna happen. He definitely needs to grovel a bit.

Cover:
The cover is beautiful. Naturally. I have been more impressed but I still think the cover is beautiful. There is no significance of the cover that connects to the book.
Quote: "I had loved him since the moment he’d taken the pudding from me. When my father had announced on Dez’s eighteenth birthday that he supported a match between us, I’d never been happier than I was in that moment. I was young. And stupid. When Dez had disappeared the very next day, I experienced a heartache that I thought would swallow me whole and never spit me out. He’d been more than a crush. He had been my best friend, my confidant and my world.”

My Thoughts
Plot: The story was an opening to The Dark Elements Series which sets up the world for the main books and characters. It was about 100 pages and left me begging for more. A lot more. We follow and beautiful Jas through this novella and she is captivating. She is like many other of Jennifer's characters in her series. They are all strong, determined, and handed a bad hand of cards. They all somehow have impossibly bad luck which is good for readers but bad for the characters. The only thing I was upset with was that Jas seemed like a watered down version of Alex. Not that that's really a bad thing just a bit like fitting into the mold if you catch my drift.
Characters: Jas was likable and relate-able. She was a bit of a rebel but knew when to stand down and let things she couldn't handle be...well, handled. If that makes sense. Dez was hot but since this was a novella I can never get all too attached to the characters because I feel as if we don't learn enough about them to really connect. Did I like them? Yes. Were they well written? Sure. Did I love them? Sadly, no. My favorite character has to be Herbert. I hope we see him again because I fell instantly in love with the demon. He kind of reminds be of the demon from The Demon Trapper's Daughter series that Riley keeps around. Loved it.
Writing/Syntax: The writing was good a few spelling errors and a few words stringed together in one big large word. Someone did point out to me and I now take this into consideration when reviewing that when going from print to digital there are bound to be mistakes that the computer makes or misunderstands. So that is my only true critique.
Romance: The romance was good and engaging. It got hot but not too steamy which I hope changes throughout the rest of the series which will focus on Layla who we met in the book briefly.
Ending: I hate to say this but the end disappoints which i knew it must to kick off the start of an amazing new series because we don't find anything out really we just get the world setup. It's an interesting and creative world which sounds fascinating and awesome. White Hot Kiss will kick ass which all Jennifer's books do. Truly excited to hop on to another roller coaster ride series.

This novella was so cute 🥹 I actually like that I read it after reading White Hot Kiss, mostly because being familiar with the lore helped me easily slip into the story AND because I’d already met the characters this is about.
