3.5 Stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ :)
I liked it, for what it was. This is a prequel to “White Hot Kiss” The first book in the Dark Elements Series. You get to meet characters of the main books and this gives context to the world. That being said, Novellas have never been my favorite. Something about the pacing of Novellas has never quite sat well with my reading style. I’m more of a super long, incredibly detailed plot and character development series -type of girl. There is no overarching plot to this novella, it’s mainly just a light romance. I do like the writing style, it’s very smooth and flows well. If you’re looking for something easy to read with a cool world, this is it. I’m excited for the next book. :)

I loved it, this was such a fun quick read. It’s an introductory to The Dark Elements series and I think it gives you a preview of what the world looks like. I really liked the characters and the sweet little romance. It was fun!
I'm sorry but I've made up my mind... Zayne. He deserves her more.
This is a novella, the start of the Dark Element's series, we get Jaz and Dez. Dez returns and he claims her, and now they have a week to see where everything leads. This story is a great start, I can't wait to meet Layla, Zayne and Roth.
Jennifer L. Armentrout can do no wrong - give her a speck of dust and she will be able to weave not one story, but billions of stories out of nothing! She has a gift, and definitely knows how to create with it, and share it with us...
This brilliant writer has now given us a world with gargoyles and demons - adorable, smart, witty and sexy - there is no resisting Jasmine and Dez's story...
Jasmine's heart was broken three years ago when Dez took off without saying goodbye, without leaving a note, an explanation - how she ever get over losing the only friend, her best friend? The one that she was just 'mated' to?
Jas goes through the motions and tries to be as independent as she can be. With a heavy heart, she does her best to move on, do what she has to do, and every now and then, sneaks off to spread her wings and look for a way to calm her lonely heart.
Dez comes back.
He comes back just like he left, without any warning. As if he never left. And expects to fit right in as though nothing ever happen.
As hard as it is to say no, Jas has yet to forgive him. And she is determined to at least find out why he left before deciding whether or not he deserves a second chance to be her friend again... let alone, her 'mate'.
The chemistry between Jasmine and Dez is the hottest perfection out in YA right now. There banter and cuteness balances out and creates a wonderful page-turner.
What I love about this prequel - great intro to the series, its characters, surroundings and plot.
Jennifer L. Armentrout is a master at storytelling!

Short and Sweet
This was such an adorable and sweet novella. I really wish there was more!! The relationship between Dez and Jas is so pure and sweet I wish I could bottle it up.

A great introduction to the Dark Elements Series.
I loved this prequel. It was informative enough without being information overload, the characters were witty and had great chemistry, and I finished the book craving more.
I love the mates trope, and this was a great exploration of the possibility of rejected mates. I loved that JLA still gave us plenty of heartbreak, swooning, drama and angst with the main characters, while still setting up the premise for the rest of the series and the main characters that will be focused on in that.
