Although it was well written (I expect nothing else from Lawrence Hill!) sometimes I thought there were too many characters, which lead to some confusion, especially some that were mentioned only vaguely, but appeared to play a larger role. Still a recommended read!

Symbolism so heavy-handed and unwieldy you could kill a man with it. Characters seem flat and with unrealistic dialogue. Exposition is rammed, often repeatedly, down your throat . Shifting character perspectives all felt like they had the same bland voice. It’s all too artificial. Put it down on page 85.

I was a bit disappointed,,,, it's a futuristic African country setting with a slant of Hunger Games plot. Not what I expected.

Wanted to really like it but just didn't get very deeply invested in the characters - maybe because it was a fictional setting.

Great character development! Could connect very easily. Running part of the story grabbed me of course.
