I really enjoyed this book at first. It starts out strong and the science at the beginning is clear and easy to understand. Unfortunately it didn't maintain that accessibility and ended up being kind of muddled and just an okay read.

A lovely read on geology influencing evolution. What sets this book apart is the sheer joy that comes across every page as professor Knoll writes about how we may have gotten to now.
The book ends with a stark warning on climate change that should be a call to action for all.

It's brief, but probably too brief. Covers topics rather than chronology, so it is jumped back and forth through time. I tend to evaluate science books by whether I learned something or could see myself using it in the classroom and this book failed on both. I might recommend it to someone unfamiliar with the topic in general, but I think there are better options out there.
13.8 billion years condensed into a short, readable, understandable book.
Quick deep histort primer. Did a particularly good job with the earliest eras, the later ones come and go a little too quickly even for a brief trip.
This should be required reading in High School
