A welcomed YA fantasy book which was described to me as a mix of game of thrones and a heist. A group of 6 teens, who work in the underbelly of the city, are brought together to perform the impossible - break out a prisoner from the Ice Court.

This was an incredibly easy read, filled with personal and romantic drama - I didn’t want to put it down! Various degrees of romantic pining are touched upon throughout. A lot of the characters and the reader are left in the dark about the heist details, I loved the thrill of guessing and being delightfully wrong.

The only thing that pulled me out of the story was… are they really all 17 years old?

I am ordering the next one

l have never felt so utterly transported into a universe, like I literally felt like I was alongside the characters throughout the heist. Like, I’m glad I wasn’t because I’d definitely die, but it was still fun.

THE CHARACTERS. I JUST LOVED THEM SO MUCH. They’re so well developed and have the best personalities. I genuinely wish they were real.

Funny, engaging, amazingly written. Honestly, reminded me why I love reading and that sometimes it is genuinely hard to make yourself stop reading. I am pushing the age though at which this is a fun adventure, I spend half of the book thinking how young these kids are and how much therapy they all need. Not saying this in a bad way, just putting it as a reminder to myself if I reread it, that this is something that changes your perspective. And just, it felt like all of these characters have some specific things added to them that are so special, and so real - problems/situations that exist - and it was not there just for the brownie points, they actually formed a coherent character and had an effect on the story. Though, to reiterate, every single one of the six has a diagnosable mental problem that they will need years of therapy and medicine to deal with.

My only problem is that ends in the middle of nowhere. I know people like to sell trilogies etc. but it literally was surprising when it ended because the kindle edition was not even done, maybe about 80%? It just feels like the first book should have ended 1 chapter earlier, and not in the middle of an action scene.
