I finally fell into the Six of Crows hype after putting it off for so long and my gosh this book didn't disappoint me. It sure lived up to the hype for me. Honestly what kept it from being a 5-star was due to how confused I was on how their world works and trying to imagine everything that was happening. I did not read the Shadow and Bone trilogy prior to this book so that might be on me. Although I still think you can read them separately; however, for me, I do like to understand and gain some context on what I'm reading. Overall I really enjoyed this book and all its characters. I'll definitely be continuing on to Crooked Kingdom.

i meaaaaaan the author is hugely popular and the book has great reviews. not a surprise i liked it.

positives: clever writing and well fleshed out world. characters are diverse and each feels like they have their own world going on. plot is a fun heist style so it keeps me on my toes.

negatives: sometimes it felt very hamfisted in trying to make kaz a cool guy. i just felt like he was shadow the hedgehog sorry!! also i know they grew up fast cause they had hard lives, but i still wish the characters werent teens.

read this book if you like high fantasy with some grit to it. its only a little tense and suspenseful.

This was a re-read. I read the book when it first came out and I had forgotten it so completely by the time the sequel came out that I felt I had to re-read it…but I didn’t until my book club chose to read it because it was so incredibly forgettable and all I could remember about it was that it was exhausting.
So after a second read, here’s my review: the story is mostly fun - assemble a team and pull off a heist! The pace is fast, the writing style is very fun and engaging. The downsides: the characters are completely unbelievable and not at all engaging. The cleverest, most dangerous person in this crime-riddled city is…17. Okay. 🙄 Everyone has to have a ridiculous, toxic romantic entanglement with another member of the crew. 🙄🙄 deus ex machina around every corner, tropes heavily reliant on stereotypes, gratuitous trauma as a substitute for actual character development …bah. No wonder I remembered it being exhausting. The writing and the action are good enough to carry it through, but at 8 years old it already feels dated.

this is literally THE book. if you liked the Shadow and Bone series, go read it. Go read it right now. Close this app and go read it. I mean it. she's a work of art, she's perfect, she's the moment. I wouldn't change a thing about this book.

OMG Six of Crows is incredible! I don't know why it took me so long to read it, but I'm glad I finally did. The character dynamics are so messy and fun; the heist keeps you on the edge of your seat; the worldbuilding is thorough (and you can see the cultural differences through the eyes of various characters). I can't wait to read the sequel!

I love Jesper so much he is like a blorbo to me.

Six of Crows is absolutely amazing! After I finished I literally felt empty, because I thought I would never read anything as good again. I mean, after that I read the second book, but yk ;). All the characters are so well written and the book keeps you on your toes with plot twists and Kaz Brekker the mastermind xD. You will really fall in love with all the characters (even Matthias).
The story follows a group of (traumatized) criminal teens, who end up trying to pull an impossible heist. The story is set in 18/19 century-ish Ketterdam(which is based on the Netherlands). It can make you cry and laugh in the span of a chapter, while other times you will just sit there in shock thinking “how in the world did Leigh Bardugo even come up with this?!” (In a good way ofc). I would 100% recommend this book! It also dives into some triggering topics though, so be safe and check tws before reading! >:3

So well written, oh my goodness. Love the different points of views each chapter. And I love this ragtag group of criminal Crows. As a mobility aid user it was refreshing to see Kaz use a cane and still be a fully fleshed-out character!
