This paranormal rom-com was so good! I just inhaled it this afternoon, and although I guessed where the plot was going, it was so funny and sweet, and how it got to the ending wasn't the predictable path that I expected based on the blurb. The blurb mentions that the Merriweathers get their magic back and that Max Halifax has to help them control their magic, so I'd assumed that this happened quite early on and that the plot would be more of a hate-to-love, their families hate each other, they're both trying to fight their attraction while he teaches them magic, the tension builds and builds, secrets are uncovered etc etc. But it's not that. The Merriweathers don't even get their magic back until nearly 2/3 of the way through so it's more about the two main characters, the romance, and all the side characters that make up the quirky cast of friends, family and imps.
It was just really cute, cozy, funny and heartwarming witchy rom-com and I hope the author does more in this world! A spirit witch/body witch combo for a sequel would definitely work as a complement to the mind and heart MC combo here! And Delia's best friend Amy is a body witch so that's already half of the couple ready to go for their own book. There's no indication that this is a series, so it's probably just wishful thinking, but if Carly Bloom does write more, I'll be reading it for sure!

I have not read a witchy romance set in the Texas Hill Country, but the setting worked well. The Merriweathers were fantastic—and I kinda appreciated the subtle jab at Californians moving to Texas (of which I am guilty). If you want a good witchy-themed romance with a little spice, this is a good one to pick up. I wasn’t expecting the ending, so that was refreshing. Good stuff!
