This book should have started around chapter 2. The first chapter is pretty bad. I actually wrote this whole story off based on how bad it was and only came back to it again later. I see why it's in there — it's setting up the contrast between the protagonist's mundane beginnings and his adventures. But it does a weak job of even that. So just skip it.

The rest of the book is pretty ok! It's has like a lightweight atmosphere of "The Count of Monte Cristo" that doesn't take so long to read. A fun little adventure.

The first 50 pages and the last 50 pages were amazing - but in between it was a bit too descriptive and the fight scenes were a bit boring

I remembered hearing my mom talk about this book all growing up and only now did I decide to pick it up. It was different than I expected, but it was super interesting and engaging! There is adventure and intrigue and you come to really appreciate and respect the main character and hope for the best. I highly recommend this book, it isn't super long so should be a quick read.

This is a fun read with lots of action, some humor and intrigue. I think I already knew too much about the story to fully enjoy every twist and turn but I did enjoy the ride.
