A good story which is very important when looking at what young people have to deal with, with bullying and this illustrates what people really portray in the environment from their actions.
Where do I start? I randomly picked this book up from my public library, trusting the Adult Graphic Novel classification... Well, let me tell you: it was BAD. The art looks terrible, the story line is very weak despite an interesting starting point (a withdrawn school student gets immersed in a virtual world after her sole parent passed away) and the whole thing would suit a young reader way better than an adult. Fair enough, I told myself, after all it is a first published work, let's cut the author some slack. Then I checked the cover again. This very amateurish production did not take ONE person to make, but, wait for it... FIVE! So there is this guy, apparently a YouTube celebrity (!), whose name is at the top of the list and who, it seems, basically had the first idea of doing it. Then there is someone to actually draw it, someone to colour it, someone else to do the speech bubbles, and finally a fifth person to design the whole thing! I hope they had fun doing it. Reading it was a waste of my time.
This was my first graphic novel read and I couldn't have been happier with it. The main character, Evie, was very relatable. The whole concept of this graphic novel is so unique and something I have never seen before. I never would have thought up a lot of the plot points. There's sadness, happiness, betrayals, and all the feels. I was pleasantly surprised with the ending, even though it was different than what I expected. All in all, I recommend this book to readers of all ages. Simply fantastic.
Flat, weirdly drawn art with unrealistic character expressions, cliched story, and zero character development. Gee, I wish I'd remembered to bring my book to work today, and not picked this up to pass the time.
now matter how many times i read this book, it's still great!!!
I enjoyed the premise of the book, but the characters vacillate between interesting and stereotypical - there are a few too many tropes substituted for character development, and one or two of the genuinely unique notes that the story strikes don't get picked up or developed as far as they could be.
