I loved the drawings and the idea of the story but it was way too fast-paced and it threw me for a loop at certain bits. I did enjoy the characters but the relationship between Mallory and Evie felt too fabricated so it lost me but I will read the second instalment :)

Generic and predictable but an easy, quick read.

At the start of the year, I was unsure whether to read USERNAME: EVIE or not. I thought that maybe this would’ve been another over-rated Youtuber story that should not have gotten the praise it deserved. On the contrary, Username Evie was an enjoyable read with an awesome story concept that astounded me and made me want to turn the colourful pages again and again.

USERNAME: EVIE is about an introverted girl called Evie who struggles to fit in at school. Constantly bullied by her cousin Mallory, she wishes to escape her sad, lonely reality. That is where Evie’s dad comes in. For years, he was working to create a virtual world of which Evie can escape to release the stresses of her everyday life. The program is called e.scape and the people there are influenced by the person who enters the gateway into its world. It all starts off happy, peaceful and calming until Mallory too, enters through the gateway and stirs up mayhem and trouble.

Told through beautiful illustrations, graphics and storyline USERNAME: EVIE was a fun, fresh and gripping read that I would recommend to all comic book lovers or sci-fi/fantasy fans!

ACTUAL RATING: 4.4 STARS

It’s fair to say that I don’t have much experience with graphic novels, but this just didn’t seem to make sense? Obviously the story’s not supposed to be realistic, but certain elements just seemed downright ridiculous. I found it difficult to follow, and wasn’t a fan of the art style. I do think it’s a creative idea, but could perhaps have been executed better.

4 out of 5 stars

This was a good book. I liked the concept, the artwork was brilliant and it was a decent length of a graphic novel.

The very end was a little cheesy and some of the characters were a little unoriginal, but despite that Evie was relatable and Mallory reminded me a fair few people in my life.

Props to the team of people who made this book.

I really liked the plot of the novel but I felt like the story was a bit rushed. Perhaps it's because it's a graphic novel but I felt like there could be some more details and information.

I wanted to read this book because I have followed Joe Sugg since the earlier days of YouTube. I am reviewing this in 2021 but I originally read it in 2017.

The main character is a young girl in high school called Evie. She is a bit of an outcast at school, and she is feeling very lonely. Her cousin, Mallory is the Queen Bee at the school. Evie dreams of a place of safety. All she wants to do is escape from reality. Evie’s father is ill and dying. He comes close to creating a virtual reality. However, he passed before he can finish it and he left her a key in the form of an app. Evie gets transported to a world where the population is influenced by her personality. Everyone shines in her presence. However Mallory discovers the app and the power causes trouble in Evie’s perfect world. This is a young adult science fiction graphic novel.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel. This was the first one I read and it was a quick read but I really enjoyed the storyline. I love how kickass these characters are however Mallory annoyed the living daylights out of me. It is a beautiful book and the drawings are fantastic and the writing is brilliant. I wouldn’t say there was any weaknesses, I enjoyed this novel and it was a good one considering this was the first time I read a graphic novel. I gave it 4 stars because it was an easy read and I cannot wait for the next book in his series.

Joe Sugg did good. I thoroughly enjoyed this graphic novel!

Good story. felt a little rushed, i think it could've of been draw out to a series but still brill!

Well this was disappointing. I liked the art style of the illustrations but otherwise this story was very basic and boring. I'm seriously giving the 2 stars only because of the art.
