My main wish for this was to see more of the dragons. The bond was cool with them but I don’t feel like we truly had a satisfying moment with them once they were free because we never got to know them. They seem to have individual personalities but when she finally became a rider is felt a bit lackluster because there wasn’t a true build there.
“You have never feared the flames, Queen of Fire, but others will fear yours.”

❗Trigger Warnings: violence, imprisonment, trauma, steamy scenes, war themes
This one's for the vibes, not the plot.
Okay, Fear the Flames is one of those books that looks gorgeous on your shelf and is perfect for when you want a hit of angst, dragons, and steam—but don’t want to think too hard. It’s fast-paced, trope-filled, and filled with fantasy buzzwords (hello, impenetrable castle, broody commander, secret kingdom), but it felt like it was trying to do too much without grounding me in the world.

The plot of this book rips along at breakneck speed, and not in a good way. There's zero space in between plot points, and the entire story feels rushed and incomplete. Every major event could/should have been twice as long with more care and detail. The FMC is a genuinely unbearable NLOG, with zero redeeming qualities. There's no depth or interest to the characters, just flaccid stereotypes.
Even the dragons were boring, somehow? There was SO much potential for their characters, and it really wasn't realized at all. Overall a disappointment because the premise has such potential.
This reads like the author just took all her favorite tropes (some of which are great tropes!) and shoved them all into one book without stopping to check and see if it's actually a good idea, or to actually make them fit together logically.
The worst thing about this book is the FMC though. Cannot emphasize enough how obnoxious she is. If I have to find something good to say about the book, I'd say that the side characters are interesting and fun, and I liked seeing a healthy male/female genuine friendship that's not sexually charged, or just a will they/won't they. That relationship was the best one in the whole book.

Saved me from a reading slump. It’s a simple story. Don’t go in expecting crazy world building, character development, juicy romance (though it was not bad) etc,.
