This story was a treat from start to finish! I absolutely loved Elowen and Cayden and their journey to get El’s dragons back. Elowen comes from a really crappy upbringing of neglect and abuse. She grew up very early and learned to take care of herself. Cayden is the leader of a the enemy nation’s army and known as a demon. His devotion to finding Elowen runs deep, and together they make a great duo. We get some good spice as well as sweet romance in this story.
Finnian and Ryder are absolutely gems and I adore them. I especially love Saskia and how she interacts with everyone. She’s like the older sister trying to keep her idiot siblings alive. They all make up a great foundation family and I think they’re one of my favorite groups I’ve read about so far.
Could there have been more wordlbuidiling or early set up? Probably, but I never felt like I was missing key information. And that ending! The final chunk of this story was a whirlwind of action. It was exciting and a little heartbreaking. I cannot wait to dive into the next book!
book club book of the month.
had never heard of this book before, but I absolutely adored it. I have a new broody, rough, "I'll burn the world for you", book boyfriend. (I would do anything for Cayden).
at first the names were a little outlandish but by the time you hit about chapter 10 the whole tone of the book shifts and your going uphill for practically the entire book. cannot wait for book 2 to come out.

this was so fun!!! the flirting and banter was TOP TIER! i can't wait for the next one
It had a good promising start but the more I kept reading there were certain lines that made me think of other books and didn’t feel original to me. Afterwards, had a hard time getting into it and the story and characters didn’t feel as unique anymore.

The prologue was the best thing about this book lol.
I’d definitely call this a romance in a fantasy setting. There was more focus on the romance and had barely any stakes (but we’re told they’re forbidden !). The fantasy element was shallow and almost superficial. It felt like there was a huge chunk missing from the book bc of all the unexplained world building.
The writing read very melodramatic, like the inner monologue went on for ages, the dialogues felt unoriginal and overstated.
It’s a very mindless read tbh. And very trope soupy.
The fmc, Elowen, was rlly good and everything but again her inner monologue was soooo dramatic I just got bored. I mean she was funny and all but the repetitiveness of her thoughts was tiring. I could skip three pages and i wouldn’t miss a single thing.
The mmc, cayden was one of the reasons I stayed till the end lmao. His obsession with her is still somewhat of a ?? for me bc like why was he following her for ages. But whatever idc bc his obsession was so tea 😋😋 his quips were funny and I liked it.
This would’ve done numberssss if it was YA. They had tension and chemistry in spades (well at least for the first three quarters of the book) but the smut did nothing for me at all 😭 (was kinda cringey bc it felt like the author was trying too hard for it to be edgy 💔)
The plot was good. The story has so much potential. I will be reading the sequel but I’m not keeping any great expectations.
