On my DNF list couldn’t force myself to finish…
I liked the story idea and the pacing was fine, it was the characters and dialouge that did me in.
*POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELOW*
So the FMC can fight and she’s a healer, that’s great. But she also gardens, cooks, and reads dirty books with the ability to make friends immediately? It’s too much going on. Plus she goes from a tense emotional situation to joking with people who are trying to kill her within 10 pages? So much about her is unrealistic and I can’t relate to or sympathize with her.
And the MMC/romance… they go from meeting to heavy flirting in a few chapters it’s way too fast and cringy. There’s no slow burn or in depth getting to know each other. And I love a good “touch her and die” trope as much as the next girl but this guy takes it waaaaay too hard it’s uncomfortable and comes off as possessive in a bad way.
Side characters were fine, but beside the occasional paragraph with basic backstory we don’t know much about them. All the dialouge and “banter” was forced and awkward.
And the dragon storyline? Dragons barely show up, the bond between FMC and the dragons is very Daenerys Targaryen, and why does she need five?? One or two would’ve been great.
Was really hopeful about this book, but it was a disappointment.
