Outdated plot, but a promising future for Arthur Curry.

I was kind of worried after the second volume, because it wasn't very good. But this was pure gold. I just wish Mera would get more pages or maybe her own series. That would be cool.

A loud, colourful, bombastic, crowded, enjoyable, if a tad messy in places comic. If you like pop-y, pulp-y comics, then I'd recommend this. Whilst never one to be lauded as a fantastic showing as to what the genre can offer, it nevertheless, offers up a fun quick read that has some really nice emotional depth between the titular Aquaman and his brother, Orm. With some fantastic artwork by Paul Pelletier and Ivan Reis that rivals even that of the great Jim Lee's, if nothing; this book is just sumptuous to look at.

Perhaps one of the biggest tragedies of the last decade, was Geoff Johns being outed as an abuser and an egotistical arsebag; because much like J.K. Rowling (another arsebag) he is a talented writer. Flawed, yes; but talented. Here we see both sides of Johns' writing. He manages to create a really nice tense atmosphere that pairs nicely with the overall quick pace of the book. However the big plot twist is incredibly rushed, the ending (whilst tragic) is also rushed and the overstuffed nature of the story does highlight his weaknesses as a writer and his want and need to be THE writer for most of the DC Universe.

Whilst serving as the base template for the 2018 DCEU movie 'Aquaman', in many ways I feel like that movie is the superior version of the story, if for the visuals, score and cinematography alone. A decent, comic that is by no means a 'must read', but a fun one that will help you kill and hour or two if you have nothing to do.

The third volume shows more of Atlantis and King Orm. He seems pretty okay until they launch an attack on the surface world like Boston, Gotham and Metropolis because of a misunderstanding. It almost seems like all is lost and Arthur is turning his back on his friends but they all pull through. I was happy to see Vulko appear but confused about him being the mastermind of everything. In a bloodthirsty way, he finally has his wish of Arthur being on the throne of Atlantis. Orm seems as conceited and proud as royalty can be. I was surprised to see other characters who were part of the Justice League only now being allowed in because of a crisis. I liked how Mera and Arthur are supportive of one another despite their secrets. I was pretty surprised to see that Orm was able to best Superman and Wonder Woman.

I'm rather surprised the Justice League tie-in's weren't included. Oh, well. Fantastic arc for Aquaman.

Ah. I'm pissed off a little because it turned out to be a crossover. I would've given it a solid 5/5, but that couldn't happen... The story was going pretty well until I reached half the book. Ah. I'm pissed off... I wanted it to be spectacular.. Oh well... I would still recommend this though. Aquaman looks great in it.
