What I Liked:
This is very much a what if a Disney princess was also a serial killer.
Gideon is much like Maeve in terms of expressing emotions but you can genually tell he cares about Maeve.

What I Didn't Like:
brief description of how Maeve is going to rape her boss using a pipe and a live animal

honestly this is a big reason why I will not be giving this book 5 stars
The horror could have been more extreme. EXCEPT the Liz and Andres part.

Overall:
Don't let the tags confuse you this is very much a romance novel.
This was fucking amazing and that ending was just.... This book had me balling my eyes out and pissed off by the end.
I really loved Maeve. I found her to be relatable, especially with how much she values the few real relationships she has.
I love how that despite women being among those killed, their torture never felt sexually gratifying and the only really graphic torture scenes in this book all have men as their victims

I will look forward to more of this author’s work.

This book was sooo fun to read. I’m not really a gore fan so I kinda felt squeamish during some parts of the novel, but overall Maeve was interesting to observe and delve into. Her thoughts are insane and unhinged and disturbing and made me uncomfortable but I also chose not to stop reading.
Ending was a little sad to me cause i’m a sucker for love stories
but overall I did enjoy

Maeve works in the Happiest Place on Earth as the Ice Queen *wink wink* and she's secretly a deranged murder. Sounds fun, right? It was, for a lot of the book. I enjoyed all the Halloween stuff, the soundtrack, how weird the book was. However, some parts felt like they were trying too hard to be edgy. The constant references to wolves and monkeys got to be a bit much.

The last few chapters of the book were basically torture porn. Thankfully we didn't have to sit through the pipe scene (although we got a description of what she's going to do). I think the scene was too much and should have been deleted.

I appreciate what this book was trying to do but some of it just didn't work for me. The idea that women usually have to go through trauma to become violent and that Maeve rejects that idea was great. But it fell apart for me when she enacts sexual violence on another woman. I felt like that wasn't necessary.  The very end left me feeling kind of meh. It was hard to care about Maeve's relationship with her grandmother because we barely saw it. The actions she takes throughout the book pain her as a sociopath or psychopath. The emotional impact of the ending wasn't there for me.

I enjoyed some parts of this book for sure. It's gruesome and disgusting and weird. It was worth a read, just definitely check trigger warnings for this one.

This is a really hard one to rate for me, so I'll start by writing my opinion first. I liked the aspect of it being a sort of ode to L.A., and not just the glitz and glamour but the harsh truths and depravities of many people who live there. I also liked how Maeve was a representation of the city. I did find her character to be a little pick-me-girl-ish which IMO is always annoying.
I will say that I didn't realise how graphic the book was before I started reading and though the killings were indeed graphic I was very unsettled with the sexual aggression (iykyk). I also didn't like how her feelings for Gideon were what kept her "calm/sane" it felt a bit like male savior trope.
