I'll start by saying I actually really like CJ Leede's writing. Her word choice, vivid descriptions, well constructed characters (despite the insanity) was truly impressive. 
The amount of times I had to pause and process the insanity that I read was too many to count. I'm awful with gore descriptions, if you are too, this isn't the book for you. It was, to say the least, a LOT.

I am of two minds about this book. The horror of it is captivating and sick, but I'm not sure what to ultimately think beyond the shock factor. I will probably return to review more after I think on it 🤔

Deliciously dark, if a bit too much for me at times. A little let down by the ending, but overall a good one.

This book broke my heart. It reads a bit like Holden Caulfield narrating American Psycho, but with queer overtones and feminine rage. We follow Maeve as her carefully managed life starts to go completely off the rails, and she cuts an impulsive, bloody path towards true self discovery. This book teeters right on the edge of genre, dipping its toes into splatterpunk when describing gore and torture. I’d recommend it for a quick, visceral read that’ll absolutely hurt your feelings by the end. 4/5
