I really loved reading this, could not put it down. Each of the characters was uniquely funny and interesting and lovable. As a chronic reality TV watcher, it was really nice to see a story in that space that reflected my life and reality. Great balance of humor and deeply cutting reflection. This book got me to annotate for the first time in years, and I will be forcing it into the hands of any willing party in my vicinity.

Read this after Hannah (A Clockwork Reader) raved about it in one of her reviews. In all honesty, I was really hoping this was going to be a 5-star read for me, but the second half kind of dipped in holding my interest at times.

Maybe it was because I knew as a reader that these two characters would end up together since this is a romance novel, but a lot of times I felt that Charlie and Dev's arguments kind of came out of nowhere, or happened very suddenly. I got a lot of whiplash in the second half because of that.

The first half and the ending though both really had me. It was tropey, their bonding was fun and cute, and seeing everything play out at the end was so great to watch. Especially given both of these characters are very open with the readers and with each other about their mental health, it was nice to see them get the happy ending they wanted.

Some quotes I liked:
"Isn't it wild that his true self is the version of Charlie Winshaw people liked the most?"

I just wasn't into the relationship - they didn't seem to be geling for me. Or maybe I just shouldn't read POV characters with anxiety anymore - read and finished another romance like that but didn't really enjoy it that much.

Wow…. Just, wow. Holy crap did I love this book. I loved Dev and Charlie. I loved the blatant aspec rep, the queer rep, and the mental health rep. All of it was so good! Not to mention all the commentary on reality dating shows. I honestly don’t know what else to say about The Charm Offensive other than I really, really loved it. I want to dive back into it and start a reread. If it’s not already clear, this book is getting a solid five stars. And I’m just gonna go scream over this one  in a corner.

Absolute perfection. Chefs kiss. Change nothing. The representation?! Immaculate. Multiple types of neurodivergence across multiple characters, people across the entire spectrum of sexuality across multiple characters, racial diversity throughout and a mixed race couple at the forefront? Oh, and of course a heart melting queer romance to boot. This is unREAL (rest in peace 🙏🏼) if it was remotely heartwarming and had any happy storylines. I can’t ask for more. 1000 stars.

I will actually fight someone over this book, don’t you dare come over here with your slander 🤣

Super adorable romantic comedy with great LGBTQ+ and mental health representation! I loved their love from the beginning but from around halfway to the end I found Dev absolutely unbearable (and unrealistic with how dense he was about Charlie) which detracted from the romance a fair amount. It was 100% predictable but honestly rom coms usually are and that didn’t take away from my enjoyment because I don’t read a rom com for the plot twists. Overall recommend, I just wish Dev’s character had been worked on a bit more.
